The New York Jets have made notable changes to their offense ahead of the upcoming National Football League season, with the additions of quarterback Justin Fields, first round draft pick Armand Membou, and second round selection Mason Taylor. While Fields is expected to step into a starting role at quarterback and Membou will be a starting offensive tackle, Taylor has drawn attention for his strong performances during training camp and preseason.
John Buhler from FanSided highlighted Taylor’s early impact, writing: “Lost in what has been another newsworthy offseason for the New York Jets is the fantastic second-round pick they made. Although he was never a first-round talent coming out of LSU, tight end Mason Taylor has three things working for him in New York (…) That would be his inherently clutch nature, his NFL pedigree from his hall-of-fame father Jason Taylor, and above all else, a tremendous opportunity.”
Buhler further commented on the team’s draft choices: “Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are not going to fix the Jets overnight, but they seemed to do more right than wrong in the 2025 NFL Draft. Taking book-end tackle Armand Membou out of Missouri at No. 7 felt safe. Although I wish they could have taken tight end Tyler Warren out of Penn State instead, we have to view the Membou pick in combination with Taylor coming aboard only a round or so later. If Taylor plays like he did at LSU, he could be a huge reason the Jets start winning those close games.”
Currently, Taylor stands as the primary option at tight end for New York after outperforming other candidates during team activities this summer. With limited depth among wide receivers on the roster, there may be more opportunities for Taylor to play an important role as a rookie.
Taylor’s background includes experience playing at Louisiana State University (LSU), as well as being the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Jason Taylor.
The Jets’ adjustments this offseason will be tested when regular season play begins.
