Mason Taylor is drawing attention as he prepares for his first regular season with the New York Jets. The rookie tight end, who played at Louisiana State University, is seen by team officials as a promising addition to their offense. Evaluations of players selected in the most recent draft include positive remarks about Taylor.
“He will have a major role on offense,” wrote ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “The coaches view him as a true two-way tight end and believe his blocking is better than advertised. Taylor is healthy after missing more than a week with a high-ankle sprain. Jets coach Aaron Glenn likes to say that Taylor, the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Jason Taylor, has the right DNA for the NFL.”
Taylor’s performance during preseason games has been limited so far, but team leadership appears unconcerned about those results. Ensuring his health through the upcoming game against Philadelphia remains their main priority.
At Louisiana State University, Taylor was a standout player, recording 129 receptions for 1,308 yards and six touchdowns over his college career.
Glenn has indicated that the Jets expect to remain focused on running the football, but early projections suggest that Taylor may see significant opportunities as a pass-catcher behind wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
