The Dallas Cowboys’ ongoing contract negotiations with linebacker Micah Parsons have reached an impasse, according to owner Jerry Jones. Speaking on Michael Irvin’s podcast, Jones described a recent exchange between the team and Parsons’ agent, David Mulugheta.
“When we wanted to send the details to the agent, the agent told us to stick it up our ass,” Jones said. “We were going to send it over to the agent and the agent said don’t bother because we’ve got all that to negotiate. Well, I’d already negotiated. I’d already moved off my mark on several areas. And so, the issue is frankly that we already had the negotiation in my mind, and now the agent is trying to stick his nose in it.” (…) “We’ve got three years to work this out,” Jones said, referring to both the current contract year and possible franchise tag options through 2027.
Parsons recently requested a trade earlier this month but remains under contract for 2025 at $24 million through his fifth-year option. The approach outlined by Jones would keep Parsons with Dallas until at least 2027 by using consecutive franchise tags.
Mulugheta confirmed through a statement to The Dallas Morning News that he was aware of Jones’ remarks but did not wish to comment further.
This development adds another layer of uncertainty as negotiations between Parsons—widely considered among professional football’s leading defensive players—and team management continue without resolution.
