Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones commented on ongoing contract negotiations with defensive end Micah Parsons, stating that there was an agreement between the team and Parsons regarding the terms, amount, guarantees, and other details of a contract extension. However, according to Jones, Parsons’ agent David Mulugheta was not satisfied with the approach.
During an appearance with Michael Irvin on Thursday, Jones said Mulugheta told him to “shove the paperwork up their heinie.” Jones further explained his position: “When we wanted to send the details to the agent, The agents told us to stick it up our a–,” Jones said. “Just so we’re clear. (Parsons) and I talked, and then we were going to send it over to the agent, and we had our agreements on term, amount, guarantees, everything. (…) We were going to send it over to the agent, and the agent said, ‘Don’t bother, because we’ve got all that to negotiate.’ Well, I’d already negotiated. I’d already moved off my mark on several areas.”
Jones expressed frustration at what he saw as attempts by Mulugheta to push for further changes after he believed a deal had been reached directly with Parsons. He added: “In my mind, for the Dallas Cowboys, we’ve got it done,” Jones said. “And if the agent wants to finish up the details, which he should, and do all the paperwork, he can do that, and we’re ready to go. But as far as the amount of money, the years, the guarantees, all of that we negotiated.”
The situation has become one of this summer’s major topics around Dallas Cowboys training camp as they prepare for their final preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Jones also commented that working directly with Parsons rather than through his agent may have caused additional drama ahead of the regular season.
