Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has addressed the trade request submitted by star pass-rusher Micah Parsons, who is entering the final year of his rookie contract. Despite the formal request, Jones insists that Parsons will not be traded.
Parsons, a four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, is reportedly seeking a new contract worth over $40 million annually. His career achievements include 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. Last season, he recorded 12 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 13 games.
Jones expressed uncertainty about Parsons’ availability for the Cowboys’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4. “No, absolutely not,” Jones said when asked if he was confident Parsons would play. He described Parsons’ trade request as a negotiation tactic and emphasized his urgency to finalize a deal.
The Cowboys have yet to reach an agreement with Parsons or his agent David Mulugheta. Without a new contract, Parsons may choose not to participate in practice sessions as part of his hold-in strategy.
The Cowboys are scheduled to face the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Atlanta Falcons in preseason games before their regular-season opener against the Eagles.
Jones is known for transforming the Dallas Cowboys into one of the most valuable sports franchises globally and has won multiple championships during his tenure.
