The upcoming college football season will see Mark Gronowski taking the field as quarterback for the Iowa Hawkeyes, leading the team onto Duke Slater Field at Kinnick Stadium against the University at Albany Great Danes on Saturday.

Gronowski arrives with notable achievements at the Football Championship Subdivision level, having earned two national championships and winning the Walter Payton Award, which is presented to the top player in FCS football.

CBS Sports has placed Gronowski among its list of top 50 college football quarterbacks for 2025, ranking him at No. 42. David Cobb of CBS Sports wrote, “Gronowski is the only national-title winning quarterback on the list, as he led South Dakota State to back-to-back FCS championships in 2022 and 2023. He’ll be a significant upgrade for a Hawkeyes program that has been woeful at the position in recent years.”

Gronowski’s first game with Iowa is seen as an opportunity for him to adjust to his new team and reacclimate to live action after nearly a year away from competition. The match against UAlbany is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Saturday, August 30.
