The Week 0 high school football game between Hopewell and Riverside, originally set to take place at Riverside High School, will now be played at Tony Dorsett Stadium on the campus of Hopewell High School. The Beaver County Times reported this change Thursday morning.

According to Hopewell head coach Matt Mottes, the non-conference matchup has been relocated. The publication reached out to Riverside athletic director John Wolf for clarification on the move but did not receive a response.

In last season’s opening game, Hopewell won against Riverside with a score of 38-25. James Armstrong made his first career high school start in that contest, throwing for two touchdowns, rushing for 108 yards, and scoring another touchdown on the ground. Wide receiver Logan Triscila recorded three receptions for 63 yards and caught both of Armstrong’s passing touchdowns.

Riverside enters this year returning much of its roster from last season. Among its key players is sophomore quarterback Aidan Gaydosz, who threw for 547 yards and eight touchdowns previously.

The game is scheduled to begin Friday night at 7 p.m., maintaining its original start time.

Other Week 0 matchups across the Beaver Valley include Mars at Beaver Area; Blackhawk at Beaver Falls; Montour at Central Valley; Brashear at Cornell; Laurel at Ellwood City; Freedom Area at Quaker Valley; Moon Area at Trinity; Shenango at New Brighton; Rochester at OLSH (Moon Area High School); Sto-Rox at South Side; and Western Beaver at Ambridge.
