The Pro Football Hall of Fame launched its 2025-26 Heart of a Hall of Famer series with an impactful event at Martin Luther King High School in Philadelphia. The program, supported by Extreme Networks, featured Harry Carson, the renowned linebacker from the New York Giants and Hall of Famer No. 231. Carson shared insights on respect, a principle he believes is crucial both on and off the field.
Addressing the students, Carson emphasized teamwork and mutual respect: “When you take the field, you respect your opponent, but you respect your teammates as well … you have to be a team player.” He encouraged students by sharing his own experience: “For all of you that are in this room today, I want you to know that I sat in the same chairs you are sitting in … the same thing occurred when I was where you all are.”
Carson’s speech highlighted how respect played a significant role in his career and leadership as a captain for many years with the Giants. He also spoke about his initial struggles with football, describing how perseverance rather than passion drove him forward. “Football was never a game I loved. I fell into football,” he admitted. Recalling his first high school practice, he said, “I underestimated what it would take to play the game.” Despite early setbacks, encouragement from teammates motivated him to continue.
