Last week, Georgia Tech Athletics announced that the school has set a new record with more than 6,000 student tickets sold for the upcoming football season. This figure surpasses last year’s total and follows a 2024 campaign in which Georgia Tech recorded a 7-6 record, highlighted by an upset victory over Miami and an eight-overtime game against Georgia.

Anticipation for the program continues to build under head coach Brent Key, who took over as the full-time leader in 2023. The team will see the return of seniors including quarterback Haynes King and running back Jamal Haynes on offense. On defense, All-ACC senior defensive tackle Jordan Van Den Berg remains a key presence. Additionally, Georgia Tech’s recruiting class was ranked No. 19 nationally by ESPN — its highest since 2007 — and features five-star offensive tackle Josh Petty from Roswell, marking the team’s first five-star recruit since eventual Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Calvin Johnson joined in 2004.

Fan engagement appears to be rising alongside these developments: average attendance at games reached just over 38,000 in 2024, representing a five percent increase compared with the previous year.

Former Georgia Tech All-American quarterback Joe Hamilton commented on this renewed support from both fans and students. Hamilton said during his appearance on a local podcast: “It’s hard to get the fanbase to rally around, but now it’s back (…) It’s back because they love the product, they see toughness … they see direction.”

The city of Atlanta is known for its enthusiasm for college football—a sentiment echoed within the student body given their response to what many consider a promising season ahead.

Georgia Tech will open its season on Friday, Aug. 29 when it travels to Boulder to play against University of Colorado Buffaloes before returning home to face Gardner-Webb University on Sept. 6.
