The Alaqua Lakes estate of former National Football League linebacker John Mobley and his wife Rebecca sold recently after two days on the market, receiving multiple offers. The 9,545-square-foot home, built by the Mobleys in 2006 with custom homebuilder Dave Brewer, sold for $3.6 million.
Frank Benevento of Coldwell Banker Global Luxury handled the listing. He said, “It is timeless, this house is. I don’t know what it would take for this home to become dated (…) Not to be trite, but the wow factor is immediately there. You walk in there and you look up, you look to the right, the left. Everywhere you look is striking.” Benevento described the home as having an old-world style and highlighted features such as soaring ceilings and a thoughtful layout.
“You’ve got multiple bedrooms on the main level and then the primary suite unto itself in a whole wing on the left of the house. So, it is a very, very nice layout if you have a larger family or you have family visiting,” he said.
The property sits on 1.19 acres behind double gates in Alaqua Lakes’ Enclave section and features six bedrooms and seven bathrooms. Amenities include a gym, theater room, chef’s kitchen, grand staircases, curved glass windows providing natural light throughout the house, and golf course views.
Describing some distinctive features of the residence, Benevento added: “It’s not really ostentatious in the sense of being unapproachable, but even the exterior of this home was one that you pull over and just say, wow, what an architectural masterpiece (…) This is on a double lot and it also has breathtaking golf course views (…) If somebody wanted to have a little wine or coffee or cigar, it’s like a tree house up there… overlooking the golf course.” Regarding outdoor amenities he stated: “It has two waterfalls. One of them is a spa and then there’s another water feature… It’s got all kinds of lights and water features and it is just amazing.”
Benevento emphasized how natural light floods into the property due to its large windows: “It’s not cavernous in the sense of being dark. It is extremely light and airy because of the soaring ceilings and amount of light that floods into this property.” He noted that uniqueness contributed to buyer interest: “I think that it was one-of-a-kind and that this is not the kind of home that has much duplication… That was a big thing.”
Jeffery and Katherine Matthews purchased the estate with Alex Steffano from Korr Realty as their agent. Benevento commented about changes to come: “It seemed to me like they loved everything about it. There were really no complaints with this property.”
Within two days of listing at $3.675 million there were two written offers and one verbal offer for the residence. On deciding to sell their long-time home Benevento remarked: “The only constant in life is change… And I think that was just motivation. It was painful for them (…) Nobody wants to leave a property like this. I certainly wouldn’t want to.”
Mobley gained recognition during his professional football career for helping secure Denver Broncos’ win over Green Bay Packers at Super Bowl XXXII by breaking up Brett Favre’s pass attempt near game end.
