Hykeem Williams, a former five-star recruit who played wide receiver at Florida State University, recently commented on the difference he sees between his new program at Colorado and his experience with the Seminoles. In remarks that have drawn attention, Williams said: “More development. More, more, more development. There were guys that have been there at Florida State but here it’s just on another level.” He added, “More development…more more more development…coming here, you’re just around [so many] guys that’ve been there (…). There are guys that have been there at Florida State, but here it’s on another level. You got three gold jackets, NFL guys that come in, Hall of Famers that even come in still to just pour in us and help us be great and succeed.”
Williams’ reference to “gold jackets” and Hall of Famers points directly to members of the Colorado staff with substantial professional experience. The staff includes Coach Deion Sanders as well as Warren Sapp and Marshall Faulk—each enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Since transferring from Florida State after one season in which he showed flashes but did not emerge as a main contributor, Williams has remained vocal about his move. His latest comparison underscores what he sees as a significant gap between the two programs when it comes to player development and access to guidance from prominent football figures.
The comments come amid changes within the Florida State coaching staff and as Williams looks ahead to opportunities with his new team at Colorado.
