Wolverhampton Wanderers were narrowly defeated by Everton, 3-2, in a Premier League match at Molineux on Aug. 30, 2025. Jack Grealish played a key role for the visiting team with notable assists and control in midfield.

Everton went into the match looking to earn their first away points of the season after two home wins against Brighton & Hove Albion and Mansfield Town. Manager David Moyes was able to field a full-strength squad that included Jack Grealish and saw Vitalii Mykolenko return for his first Premier League start of the campaign.

For Wolverhampton Wanderers, the build-up focused on their attempts to recover from consecutive defeats at the start of their league campaign and recent departures in their squad. The hosts also entered the contest without striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The visitors took an early lead through Beto following a sequence involving Grealish and Mykolenko. Wolves equalized with Hee Chan Hwang scoring from close range after a well-timed cross. Shortly after, Ndiaye restored Everton’s advantage by finishing at the back post from Dewsbury-Hall’s delivery following interplay between Beto and Grealish.

Grealish continued to influence play, contributing to attacking moves that kept pressure on Wolves’ defense throughout the first half. In commentary during Everton’s dominant spell, Joe Thomas wrote: “Can Everton keep a grip this time. They are keeping hold of the ball and working it around the area nicely, until Ndiaye gives the ball away. But they hem in Wolves and force them into a mistake and Grealish is dancing around their midfielders until Andre, after taking several nibbles at him, just hacks him down.(…)Chants of ‘Super Jack’ from the away end.” Thomas also commented: “Away end is having a lovely time(…)Spirit of the Blues from the away end now as Wolves look for an immediate response.”

In the second half, Dewsbury-Hall extended Everton’s lead with another goal created by Grealish’s work on attack. Wolves responded late through Gomes but could not find an equalizer before full time despite some late pressure during added minutes.

Throughout match coverage, Thomas detailed passages such as: “Everton good in response to re-taking the lead. The rain falling now and they are keeping Wolves in their own half.(…)Great play to relieve pressure on his defence.” On set piece preparation by Wolverhampton Wanderers before kick-off he remarked: “Wolves practice defending set pieces ahead of facing Everton. Not the worst idea – think it was all 4 goals that were scored from set plays when Everton beat them in December.”

The final whistle confirmed Everton’s 3-2 victory over Wolves as reported by Matt C Jones: “That’s it – Everton are 3-2 winners at Wolves.(…)What a game! What a win!”

This result provides momentum for Moyes’ side as they look ahead in their Premier League schedule while Wolverhampton seek improvement amid ongoing changes within their lineup.
