Eric Dickerson, a Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee, recently claimed that National Football League teams were told not to draft Shedeur Sanders. Speaking on the Roggin and Rodney Show, Dickerson attributed his comments to a reliable source within the league.
“I tell you this much, what I heard from someone that’s in the NFL, that the NFL told [teams] don’t draft him, do not draft him,” Dickerson said. “We’re going to make an example out of him. And this came from a very good source, a very good source.”
Dickerson further explained that he believes there was direct intervention regarding the Cleveland Browns’ decision during the draft process. “I won’t say who — somebody called the Cleveland Browns and said, ‘Don’t do that, draft him,’” Dickerson continued. “Because they weren’t going to draft him, either. . . .They were forced into drafting him, because somebody made a call to them.”
He added details about the original intent of those involved: “He was not gonna get drafted, to basically show you this is what happens when you do this,” Dickerson stated. “When I say it came from a good source, I say it came from a very, very good source.”
The remarks come amid discussion following Sanders’ drop in the draft order and questions about league practices and player relations.
