Though NFL offenses in recent years have focused more on passing, the record for most touchdown passes in a single game has stood for decades. Eight quarterbacks have reached the milestone of seven touchdown passes in one game, starting with Sid Luckman in 1943.
Luckman, playing for the Chicago Bears, was the first to achieve this feat. Since then, other notable quarterbacks have matched his performance. Drew Brees tied the record most recently in 2015 while playing for the New Orleans Saints against the New York Giants. Brees is recognized as a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year and was named MVP of Super Bowl XLIV. His performance, like Luckman’s, came against the Giants.
Other quarterbacks who have thrown seven touchdowns in an NFL game include Nick Foles (Philadelphia Eagles), Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos), Joe Kapp (Minnesota Vikings), Y.A. Tittle (New York Giants), George Blanda (Houston Oilers), and Adrian Burk (Philadelphia Eagles).
These performances highlight significant moments from both past and present eras of professional football.
