Pro Football Hall of Famer Dwight Freeney will be the guest speaker at the 2024-25 Detroit High School Sports Awards. The event is scheduled for Monday, June 16, at The Fillmore Detroit and is supported by Gift of Life Michigan.
Freeney’s NFL career spanned 16 seasons, including 11 with the Indianapolis Colts, where he won a Super Bowl in 2006. He concluded his career in 2017 with the Detroit Lions after playing five games. His career also included stints with the Chargers, Cardinals, Seahawks, and Falcons. Over his career, Freeney accumulated 332 tackles, 125.5 sacks, and forced 47 fumbles while appearing in three Super Bowls.
The awards are part of the USA TODAY High School Sports Awards program. Tickets for this year’s event are free due to support from Gift of Life Michigan.
“Dwight Freeney forced 47 fumbles, achieved 125.5 sacks, and was selected for seven Pro Bowls throughout his Hall of Fame career as a defensive end and linebacker,” reads a statement about Freeney’s achievements.
Freeney is recognized for his effective spin move technique used to evade offensive linemen and sack quarterbacks.
