Furman University football player Devin Hester Jr., son of Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Devin Hester, delivered a standout performance in the Paladins’ season opener against William & Mary. Hester Jr. is currently playing as a wide receiver and special teams returner.

In the first game of the season, Hester Jr. was involved in a highlight-reel kick return play, drawing comparisons to his father’s well-known skills on special teams. The article notes that “it might be premature to compare Hester Jr. to his old man because following the footsteps of a Hall of Fame talent is easier said than done. But it’s also hard not to start making comparisons when Hester Jr. looks as explosive as his dad, such as on this kick return play in today’s game.”

Hester Jr. previously attended Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, Georgia, before joining Furman’s football program in 2024.

In Furman’s 23-21 win over William & Mary, Hester Jr. played a major role by catching two passes for 30 yards and accumulating 144 kick return yards on four returns, according to ESPN.

His father, Devin Hester, was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame last year after a career that included four Pro Bowl appearances, three First-team All-Pro selections, and recognition on both the 2000s and 2010s All-Decade Teams.

The younger Hester’s performance has generated early excitement about his potential future in professional football.
