Colorado football coach Deion Sanders expressed surprise at a student section tradition that stands out during games at Folsom Field. As the Buffaloes prepare to open their 2025 college football season against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29, Sanders shared his reaction when asked which traditions surprised him most upon coming to Boulder.
“The smell of weed in the 2nd quarter,” Sanders said when discussing Colorado’s unique fan culture.
Sanders is set to begin his third season as head coach, returning after overcoming a recent cancer scare. Last year, the Buffaloes achieved a No. 25 national ranking and finished with a 9-4 record, including a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play—Sanders’ strongest season so far at Colorado. However, the team did not qualify for the conference championship game or secure a spot in the College Football Playoff.
The upcoming season will be Sanders’ first without Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, both key players for the program last year.
Colorado’s home opener against Georgia Tech is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 29 at Folsom Field.
