Colorado football coach Deion Sanders questioned the accuracy of Big 12 injury reports during his appearance on the Colorado Football Coaches Show on Oct. 30.
Sanders expressed concern about how some teams are reporting player injuries, saying, “Let’s tell the truth, and we do,” and “I guess everybody else is lying because there’s no way nobody’s that healthy.” He did not name specific schools, but the comments have led to speculation online regarding whether he was referring to Arizona, Colorado’s upcoming opponent. For their matchup in Boulder on Nov. 1, Arizona listed only one player, offensive lineman Jordan Brown, as unavailable, while Colorado reported a total of 20 players with varying status.
Sanders further questioned the disparity in reporting: “Why do we always like, we always have 100 guys (on the injury report) and the other team, I look over and they have two guys?” He continued: “Are we the only ones being honest?” Sanders added: “I don’t lie. I don’t. I’m not gonna placate nothing. Let’s tell the truth. And we do.”
The context includes Arizona coming off a bye week after facing Houston on Oct. 18, while Colorado played Utah on Oct. 25.
The game between Arizona and Colorado is scheduled for 4 p.m. MST on Saturday, Nov. 1 in Boulder.
Questions over injury report transparency may continue as teams prepare for key matchups in Big 12 football.
