Former Tennessee quarterback Kaidon Salter has been named the starting quarterback at Colorado for the 2025 season. Colorado head coach Deion Sanders made the announcement ahead of the team’s season opener against Georgia Tech, scheduled to take place at 8 p.m. EDT at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado.
Salter was previously at Tennessee during the 2021 season but was dismissed from the program by head coach Josh Heupel in June 2021 after being arrested for simple possession of marijuana and driving without a license. He was also involved in another on-campus incident before leaving Tennessee. After his dismissal, Salter transferred to Liberty University where he played from 2021 to 2024.
At Liberty, Salter had a strong career and was named Conference USA Most Valuable Player in 2023 as well as MVP of the 2023 Conference USA championship game. During his four years with the Flames, Salter appeared in 30 games and started in 24 of them, achieving a record of 20-4 as a starter. He completed 362 out of 600 passing attempts for a total of 5,283 yards and threw for 59 touchdowns. Additionally, he rushed for 1,697 yards and scored 16 touchdowns on 298 attempts.
Sanders’s decision brings attention back to both Salter’s journey through college football and his achievements following his time at Tennessee.
