Deion Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, is currently in Texas focusing on his health. Over the past two years at Boulder, Sanders has developed a close bond with his players, often acting as a father figure to them. Travis Hunter, one of his players, has expressed strong support for Sanders during this time.
Sanders’ health issues have not been widely publicized, but his sudden move to Texas has raised concerns among college football fans. On Asante Samuel’s podcast, Sanders revealed he had lost 14 pounds, which has added to the anxiety surrounding his absence from Colorado’s summer camps. His contract stipulates that he should not be away during this critical offseason period.
Many people have reached out to Sanders as he navigates these challenges. Travis Hunter visited him in Texas, underscoring their close relationship. Hunter considers Sanders more than just a coach and sees him as a father figure.
NFL legend Michael Irvin also visited Sanders and shared insights on his podcast about their meeting. Irvin and Sanders were prominent figures in the NFL during the 1990s and remain close friends. Irvin was cautious about discussing details of Sanders’ condition due to privacy concerns but noted that when they met, Sanders was not in good condition.
Irvin described their meeting: “Deion and his situation, it is so important to me not to ever in any way make him feel like I’ve violated his trust.” He continued by saying that when they met, “he was talking like this (in whispering tone) and it felt like…I know how strong this dude is.”
The specifics of Sanders’ health issues remain undisclosed; however, Irvin mentioned that Sanders is on the path to recovery.
