Coach Deion Sanders, known for his high standards on and off the field, has introduced a new dress code for Colorado Buffaloes football players as they prepare for the 2025 season. The policy is aimed at promoting discipline and respect beyond athletics, drawing attention both locally and nationally.
The rules prohibit wearing slides, hoodies, and headphones in class. Players must not sit in the back row during lectures. For online classes, athletes are required to wear shirts and avoid moving around while logged into virtual sessions.
Sanders emphasizes accountability throughout all aspects of student-athlete life. He requires his players to sit at the front of classrooms to show engagement and respect toward professors and fellow students, highlighting that “the student part of student-athlete matters just as much as the on-field performance.” This approach is intended to instill habits that go beyond football and carry into life after college.
Under Sanders’ leadership last year, Colorado improved its football record from 4-8 in 2023 to 9-4 in 2024, which included a bowl appearance and Travis Hunter’s Heisman Trophy win. Some observers point to the emphasis on off-field discipline as a contributing factor to this progress.
This upcoming season will be Sanders’ first without Shedeur Sanders at quarterback. Colorado opens its campaign against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29. The coach believes that consistency in expectations—including classroom conduct—will help maintain momentum into games played at Folsom Field.
Every detail counts under Sanders’ system, with small actions like “wearing shoes,” “leaving the hood down,” and “showing up ready” considered foundational for achieving another successful season.
