Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is back on the field after undergoing major surgery earlier this year. In May, doctors removed his bladder due to a cancerous tumor, and by late July, he was declared cancer-free. Sanders has resumed leading the team in preseason preparations for the 2025 season.

The 57-year-old coach has been walking at least a mile around campus after each practice as part of his recovery. “I’m healthy, I’m vibrant, and I’m my old self,” Sanders said. “I’m loving life right now and doing everything I can to make the most of it.”

Sanders aims for success with new strategies and fresh energy from Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Marshall Faulk, who has joined as the team’s running backs coach. “The next phase is we’re going to win differently, but we’re going to win,” Sanders emphasized. “We want to be physical, and we’re going to run the football hard.”

For the first time, Sanders will watch his son Shedeur play from the stands instead of coaching him on the sidelines. Shedeur Sanders is set to make his preseason debut as a Cleveland Browns quarterback against Carolina on August 29. “He prepares like every snap matters,” Deion remarked about his son’s dedication.

The Colorado Buffaloes will begin their season on August 29 at home against Georgia Tech.

Deion Sanders is known for his illustrious NFL career as an eight-time Pro Bowler with 22 touchdowns scored in various roles including cornerback and return specialist. He is one of only two players in NFL history to score a touchdown six different ways: interception return, punt return, kickoff return, receiving, rushing, and fumble recovery.
