In Frisco, Texas, former Dallas Cowboys safety Darren Woodson was recognized with the 2025 Tom Landry Award during a pre-practice event at The Star. This award is named after one of the most iconic figures in team history and was presented by last year’s winner, Drew Pearson.
The Tom Landry Award, sponsored by United Healthcare, is given annually to a former Cowboys player acknowledged for their achievements both on and off the football field. Woodson holds the record as the Cowboys’ all-time leader in tackles with 1,350 over his 12-season career from 1992 to 2003. He is a five-time Pro Bowler and played a key role in helping the team secure three Super Bowl victories.
Beyond his performance on the field, Woodson has contributed significantly to communities in Dallas and Phoenix. He grew up in Phoenix and attended Arizona State University before playing professionally. Now residing in Dallas, he serves as an active board member for the C5 Youth Foundation of Texas, which supports high-potential youth from limited-resource backgrounds in becoming responsible leaders.
Woodson has been a finalist three times for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and is also listed among members of the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor. The event honoring him included almost thirty-five former Cowboys players, some being his teammates from the 1990s such as Charles Haley, Daryl Johnston, Tony Casillas, Kevin Smith and Kenny “The Shark” Gant. Other attendees included Everson Walls, Anthony Spencer, Charlie Williams, Randal Williams, Toby Gowin, Bradie James, Danny McCray, Barry Church, John Fitzgerald, Solomon Page, Keith Davis and Timmy Newsome.
