Darrelle Revis criticizes Jerry Jones over handling of Micah Parsons’ contract talks

The ongoing contract negotiations between Jerry Jones, owner and president of the Dallas Cowboys, and All-Pro linebacker Micah Parsons have drawn criticism from various members across the National Football League. One notable voice joining the conversation is Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Darrelle Revis, who questioned both Jones’ tactics and the response from the National Football League Players Association.

Revis expressed his concerns over what precedent could be established by Jones’ actions and called into question why the NFLPA has not acted more decisively. The situation has also attracted attention as Revis is seen as a potential candidate for executive director of the players union, with former quarterback Matt Schaub making similar calls for action.

“There should be an immediate grievance filed by the @NFLPA for Jerry directly negotiating with Micah Parsons (…) It is a clear violation of the CBA,” Schaub stated in a social media post over the weekend.

Revis elaborated on his position regarding player accountability versus union leadership, saying, “As players, after every game we don’t get a choice (…) We’re put in front of the media and held accountable. Win or lose, missed tackle or game-saving play, it doesn’t matter — we have to answer. That’s part of the job. And that’s why it’s unacceptable to see our union leadership avoid that same responsibility now.”

He continued: “My question last week about a recent ESPN article remains unanswered, and now Jerry Jones feels comfortable publicly humiliating our union. I don’t know if filing a grievance is necessarily the right battle at this moment, since the fine to him under the CBA amounts to pennies. But doing nothing is not an option.”

“At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry is doing, that all options are on the table, and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately (…)” said Revis. “The bigger issue is respect. Jerry’s actions show that owners have no problem taking advantage of us, and when our union fails to respond, it sends the message that they’ll be able to do the same in the next CBA negotiations if the current leadership remains in place.”

Concluding his remarks on social media, Revis emphasized: “Every player — past, present, and future — deserves a union they can trust to protect and support them.”

Fans responded positively online to Revis’ statements concerning Jones’ approach during these high-profile negotiations.

During his playing career spanning eleven seasons in which he earned almost $125 million through strategic negotiations and contractual holdouts with several teams including lengthy stints as one of professional football’s premier cornerbacks—Revis built up experience not only on defense but also at bargaining tables across multiple franchises.

While there remains some possibility that Parsons and Dallas may reach agreement before Week 1 begins Sept. 4 against Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field (“Philly”), questions continue regarding how both parties—and notably union representatives—will address this high-visibility dispute moving forward.
