No one is certain how the contract situation between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys will develop, with the dispute continuing to draw attention. Team owner Jerry Jones has addressed the matter by stating that the Cowboys plan to keep Parsons on their roster for the upcoming seasons, including 2026 and 2027, potentially using a franchise tag as reported in discussions with Michael Irwin.
Parsons has cited a back injury as his reason for not participating in Organized Team Activities, training camp, and preseason games. According to head coach Brian Schottenheimer, Parsons’ recent MRI returned “pretty clean,” though Jones described the injury and subsequent trade request as negotiating tactics. Parsons has also removed his affiliation with the team from his social media accounts.
While there are reports of other teams such as the Green Bay Packers exploring trade possibilities, Dallas remains firm in their intention to retain Parsons. If Parsons is cleared to practice following his MRI results but chooses not to report, he could risk losing about $5.33 million.
Amid these developments, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott spoke publicly about his confidence in Parsons’ return for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles. “I’ve got confidence,” Prescott told media on Monday regarding Parsons’ Week 1 availability as reported by The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “I’ve told [y’all] that way back when. And I’m just going off experience, honestly. No different than mine. I’ve got confidence in that. Just hoping, which I know he is, he’s ready to play.”
Prescott himself experienced contract negotiations resulting in him playing under a franchise tag before signing an extension in 2021.
Teammate Trevon Diggs also commented on the situation: “All the guys miss him (…) Everybody wants him out there. I just hope that everything gets handled so we can just go out there and win.”
The team’s final roster decisions are due by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, leaving uncertainty about whether Parsons will be on the field at kickoff.
