A recent discussion on the Fully Loaded podcast has focused attention on the Dallas Cowboys’ handling of linebacker Micah Parsons and the details surrounding his trade to the Green Bay Packers. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Cris Carter addressed reports about internal issues with Parsons, specifically after his move to Green Bay.
In a conversation with Sean Meaike, Carter responded to Sports Illustrated reporter Albert Breer’s commentary comparing Parsons’ situation in Dallas with those of other players like Zack Martin, CeeDee Lamb, and Dak Prescott. Breer described how Parsons was perceived differently in the locker room and highlighted player attitudes: “Martin, Lamb, and Prescott are/were very popular in the locker room. That’s not the case with Parsons, who has rankled teammates in different ways, seen by some as egotistical and self-centered.”
Carter confirmed he was aware of similar concerns about Parsons and referenced comments made by ESPN’s Adam Schefter that were released after Parsons left for Green Bay. According to Carter: “Yes, I’ve heard the same thing. (…) Now typically stuff like that what happened now is Jerry and other people will allow stuff to leak out into the media. Because when you’re playing… they don’t say anything, you know. Till they get traded and then that’s when they start hearing like, you know… ‘Oh, really?’”
Carter also commented on team expectations within Dallas: “Very opinionated on there (…) Jerry’s guys (…) Michael Irvin, Troy Aikman, and Emmitt Smith would never speak out against Jerry Jones.” He described a culture where discretion is required and noted that speaking out could affect how players are remembered.
Schefter added context regarding Parsons’ physical status at the time of the trade: “Before trading Parsons last week, the Cowboys prescribed him a five-day plan of an anti-inflammatory corticosteroid, a prednisone to help him recover from back tightness. Parsons has been practicing this week and he is trying to play in Sunday’s opener vs. the Lions, though one source said it still is uncertain if he will.”
Parsons reportedly faces lingering back issues following consultations with spine specialists before his trade to Green Bay. The Packers now face questions related both to his health status and his immediate contribution following their acquisition.
