Terry Bradshaw, the former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback and four-time Super Bowl champion, has come under scrutiny for his recent comments about Aaron Rodgers. Just before the Steelers announced the signing of Rodgers, Bradshaw dismissed the move as a “joke” and suggested that Rodgers should “stay in California and go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods.” These remarks have drawn criticism from various quarters.
NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter criticized Bradshaw’s comments, suggesting they reflect that “the game has passed him by.” Carter said, “Just because you won four Super Bowls as a quarterback, that don’t stop you from being criticized.” He further added that Bradshaw’s personal feelings towards Rodgers might be affecting his commentary. Despite acknowledging Bradshaw’s entertainment value on Fox Sports, Carter claimed that Bradshaw hasn’t made an “interesting” point in years.
Bradshaw has been with Fox Sports for over 30 years as a co-host on Fox NFL Sunday, which remains a highly-watched program. However, Carter’s own history with the network—having been fired—might color his views.
Aaron Rodgers addressed the situation diplomatically when asked about media coverage of his move to Pittsburgh. He expressed respect for past players like Bradshaw, stating, “We’re standing on the backs of those guys,” and even extended an olive branch by saying he would like to get to know Bradshaw better.
Rodgers referred to Bradshaw as “an absolute legend” during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show. Meanwhile, Bradshaw has announced plans to retire after the 2029 Super Bowl.
Cris Carter is remembered for his impressive career statistics: 13,899 receiving yards, 1,101 receptions, and 130 touchdowns. Known for his sideline catches and toe-dragging receptions, he earned the phrase ‘All he does is catch touchdowns.’
