The Dallas Cowboys have finalized a trade that sends linebacker Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. In return, the Cowboys will receive two first-round draft picks and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the deal was confirmed Thursday afternoon. The trade makes the Packers strong contenders for the upcoming Super Bowl, as they acquire Parsons and sign him to a four-year, $180 million contract with $120 million fully guaranteed at signing.
Parsons addressed his departure in a message to Cowboys fans: “I never wanted this chapter to end, but not everything is in my control. My heart has always been here, and it still is. Through it all, I never made any demands. I never asked for anything more than fairness. I only asked that the person I trust to negotiate my contract be part of the process,” Parsons wrote in an emotional farewell to Cowboys Nation.
With this new contract, Parsons becomes the highest-paid non-quarterback in National Football League history. Last season he recorded 12 sacks and 43 tackles, joining an elite group of players who have achieved double-digit sack totals in each of their first four seasons. This group includes Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Dwight Freeney, Derrick Thomas, and Reggie White.
The move marks a significant change for the Dallas defense as they begin preparations for a future without Parsons.
