The Dallas Cowboys will place rookie running back Phil Mafah on Injured Reserve after he suffered a shoulder injury. The development was reported by ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who stated, “The #Cowboys will place rookie RB Phil Mafah (shoulder) on Injured Reserve, per sources. The plan is for him to return during the season. Mafah had 15 carries for 59 yards and one touchdown in the preseason.”

Mafah’s placement on Injured Reserve comes as the Cowboys continue searching for solutions at the running back position following recent struggles with their rushing attack. The team is also navigating headline stories involving owner and general manager Jerry Jones and star pass rusher Micah Parsons.

Fans responded to the news about Mafah on social media with a variety of reactions. One wrote, “Yeah he’s definitely not hurt but I’m ok with this lol.” Another commented, “Glad this means they’re keeping him…however, there’s still no need for Sanders on the roster.” A third fan added, “Okay now the Cowboys are just playing roster gymnastics so they can see what they have between Javonte, Miles, & Blue. If nothing pans out, Mafah gets a shot.”

It remains uncertain when Mafah will be able to return to play.
