Kurt Warner was born on June 22, 1971, in Burlington, Iowa. He spent his early childhood in the city. Later, his family moved to Cedar Rapids. He attended Regis High School. He played football there as a quarterback.
After high school, he went to the University of Northern Iowa. He played one season as starting quarterback. He was not selected in the 1994 NFL Draft. He worked in a grocery store in Cedar Falls. He played in the Arena Football League with the Iowa Barnstormers. He then signed with the St. Louis Rams in 1998.
In 1999, he became the Rams’ starting quarterback. That year, he threw for over 4,300 yards and 41 touchdowns. The Rams won the Super Bowl. He was named Super Bowl MVP and league MVP. He also won league MVP again in 2001.
Warner later played for the New York Giants. He then joined the Arizona Cardinals. In 2009, he led them to their first Super Bowl. He retired in 2010. In 2017, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
His Burlington birth connects him to southeast Iowa. Though he moved young, the city remains a part of his history. His career left a strong mark on the NFL. His early life in Iowa helped shape his path.
Kurt Warner was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2017, his first year of eligibility.
Warner won the NFL MVP award in 1999 and 2001. He also won Super Bowl MVP in 1999.
