John Stallworth was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on July 15, 1952. He graduated from Druid High School in Tuscaloosa. He then attended Alabama A&M University. He earned a degree in business and played wide receiver.
Stallworth entered the 1974 NFL Draft. The Pittsburgh Steelers picked him in the fourth round. He played 14 seasons with the team. He caught 537 passes for over 8,700 yards. He scored 63 touchdowns.
Stallworth helped the Steelers win four Super Bowl titles. He played in Super Bowl IX, X, XIII, and XIV making key catches in multiple playoff games. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.
Stallworth retired after the 1987 season. In 2002, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. After football, Stallworth earned an MBA and launched a technology company. He later became part owner of the Steelers.
