On June 28, 1960, a future football star was born in Port Angeles, Washington. He grew up and pursued sports, excelling in football. He attended Stanford University and played quarterback. His talent gained attention, and he entered the NFL Draft in 1983. The Baltimore Colts selected him first overall, but he joined the Denver Broncos instead.

In Denver, he played quarterback for 16 seasons. He led his team to five Super Bowls, winning two. His ability to throw, run, and lead made him one of the best. By the time he retired in 1999, he held several records. He became the Broncos’ general manager in 2011. Under his leadership, the team won another Super Bowl.

His career shaped the NFL and his team. His connection to Port Angeles marks the beginning of his journey. Though his life centered on football, his birthplace remains part of his story.

John Elway was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, his first year of eligibility.

The Baltimore Colts selected John Elway with the first overall pick in the 1983 NFL Draft.
