Eric Allen was born on November 22, 1965, in San Diego. He grew up in the city and attended Point Loma High School. There, he played football under coach Bennie Edens. Allen’s skills on the field earned him a spot at Arizona State University, where he played college football.
In 1988, Allen entered the NFL. He played as a cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles, New Orleans Saints, and Oakland Raiders. Over his career, he made six Pro Bowls and recorded 54 interceptions. His career total of 54 interceptions ties him for 21st in NFL history. He also scored eight touchdowns and recovered seven fumbles. Allen retired after the 2001 season.
Allen returned to San Diego in 2019 to coach the defensive backs for the San Diego Fleet of the Alliance of American Football. His connection to San Diego remained strong, both as a player and a coach.
In 2025, Allen was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His achievements on the field and his ties to San Diego are remembered by fans of the game. Today, Allen is an NFL analyst for Pac-12 Networks. His journey from San Diego to the NFL is a story of dedication and success.
