Andre Johnson was born in Miami, Florida, on July 11, 1981. He grew up in Liberty City and attended Miami Senior High School. He played football and quickly became a top national prospect. He graduated in 1999 and enrolled at the University of Miami. From 2000 to 2002, he played wide receiver for the Hurricanes. In 2002, he helped the team win a national championship. He was named co-MVP of the Rose Bowl after recording 199 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He ended his college football career with 92 receptions, 1,831 yards, and 20 touchdowns. He also competed in track and field.
In 2003, the Houston Texans selected Johnson third overall in the NFL Draft. He played 14 seasons in the league. Eleven were with the Texans. He also spent time with the Colts and Titans. He earned seven Pro Bowl selections and four All-Pro honors. He holds nearly every major receiving record in Texans history. He retired in 2016 and was inducted into the Texans Ring of Honor in 2017. In 2024, he was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Johnson remained active in the Miami community. His foundation supported youth from single-parent homes. He also gave back through holiday events and remained involved with his former school and university.
Johnson notably secured 273 receiving yards in a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012, setting a franchise record for the Houston Texans.
Andre Johnson amassed 14,185 receiving yards and 1,062 receptions and scored 70 touchdowns throughout his Hall of Fame career as a wide receiver.
