Colorado will host Georgia Tech in their home opener this Friday at Folsom Field, kicking off the season with both teams undergoing notable changes. Georgia Tech is a 4.5-point favorite following a strong end to its 2024 campaign.

The Colorado Buffaloes have experienced significant roster turnover, with many key offensive players leaving for the NFL. As a result, the team is expected to feature a new look on offense under coordinator Pat Shurmur, who plans to implement a more dynamic style centered on dual-threat quarterback Kaidon Salter.

A major focus will be on running plays and option reads, aiming to keep opposing defenses uncertain and provide space for the running backs. The position group is now led by first-year running backs coach and Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Marshall Faulk.

Among returning players, wide receiver Omarion Miller stands out after strong performances last year before being sidelined by injury. He returns as a primary target alongside Sincere Brown and Drelon Miller, who are expected to play important roles in both receiving and rushing positions.

With substantial personnel changes among receivers, expectations are that Colorado’s passing game may need time to adjust. The article suggests defensive opponents may respond by playing press coverage and focusing on short routes, possibly encouraging Colorado to attempt more deep passes early in the season.

Defensively, Colorado expects consistency from last season—prioritizing pressure on Georgia Tech’s quarterback Haynes King and relying heavily on man coverage given their strong cornerback lineup. Preston Hodge and DJ McKinney are highlighted as key defensive players.

Georgia Tech enters the game looking to build upon recent successes after consecutive winning seasons. Quarterback Haynes King leads an offense also featuring running back Jamal Haynes and receiver Eric Rivers. Both teams are adapting to new personnel and styles; early adjustments may play a role in the outcome.

The preview predicts a closely contested match with Georgia Tech edging out Colorado 34-31 but acknowledges that Colorado could cover the spread.
