Former Syracuse University football players saw varied outcomes as National Football League teams announced their 53-man rosters ahead of the new season on Tuesday. For some, there was encouraging news, while others faced uncertain futures following roster cuts.
The announcement day proved positive for Andre Szmyt, a former All-American placekicker for Syracuse. Szmyt secured the starting kicker position with the Cleveland Browns. In 2018, he became the first player from Syracuse to win the Lou Groza Award, given annually to college football’s top kicker.
Other former Orange players may seek opportunities with other teams or join practice squads in hopes of continuing their professional careers.
