UNC offensive lineman Chad Lindberg has been named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List for the upcoming season. Lindberg, who transferred from Rice University after starting 11 games in 2024, is among 102 nominees for the award that recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football either from a Texas high school or currently playing at a four-year college in Texas.
This recognition comes as UNC’s roster experienced significant changes in the offseason, including several departures and additions via the transfer portal under new head coach Bill Belichick. Lindberg played at Georgia from 2021 to 2023 before transferring to Rice for his 2024 campaign, providing experience to North Carolina’s offensive line group.
Carolina Football announced Lindberg’s selection on social media: “Representing the Lone Star State. Congratulations to @ChadLindberg78 for being named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List!” (— Carolina Football (@UNCFootball) August 21, 2025).
The award’s process will see semifinalists announced in November and five finalists selected in December, with a winner named thereafter. Lindberg started seven games at left guard and four at left tackle last season for Rice. At UNC this year, sophomore Aidan Banfield is expected to start at left guard while there is competition at left tackle among transfers Will O’Steen, Miles McVay, and Jordan Hall.
Belichick’s reputation for building strong offensive lines during his time with the New England Patriots has raised expectations for improved play up front as North Carolina begins its new chapter.
