Carson Beck, quarterback for the Miami Hurricanes and former Georgia standout, was named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List. Beck, who has a name, image and likeness (NIL) valuation of $4.3 million, received public praise from his sister, Kylie Beck, who acknowledged the news by resharing the announcement on social media with a one-word message: “Yupppp.”
The recognition marks another addition to Beck’s résumé as he begins his tenure at Miami as QB1. The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award is presented each year to college football quarterbacks who display leadership and excellence on the field. This year’s watch list features 58 quarterbacks across the country.
Beck’s performance in training camp has received positive remarks following his transfer from Georgia and recovery from a UCL injury. CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello commented that Beck “looks phenomenal,” while analyst Todd McShay discussed potential broader implications if Beck succeeds at Miami. McShay said, “If he goes out and has a monster year, and Miami’s in the mix at the end like they were with Cam Ward last year, and they’re putting up big numbers and the offense is running and he’s a little bit more accurate and his receivers aren’t having to work for it the way they did at Georgia… you know what becomes the storyline?” He added, “‘Georgia doesn’t take care of their receivers or their passing game. They are a defensive program that runs the football and has really good tight ends…”
In response to such observations about Georgia’s offensive approach, head coach Kirby Smart made offseason additions to strengthen their receiver lineup through key transfers.
Beck now leads an experienced group at Miami behind one of college football’s top-rated offensive lines as he aims to establish himself among leading quarterbacks nationally this season.
