A former Temple High School football player, Cam Vaughn, has been named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award ahead of the 2025 college football season. Vaughn is among 42 wide receivers and five tight ends nationwide recognized for this prestigious accolade. The award, named after Raiders legend Fred Biletnikoff, honors the outstanding FBS receiver each season.
Fred Biletnikoff, who played for the Oakland Raiders from 1965 to 1978, caught 589 passes for 8,974 yards and scored 76 touchdowns during his career. Any player who catches a pass is eligible for the award.
Vaughn began his football journey as a quarterback at Temple High School, where he recorded 51 touchdowns and accumulated 5,630 yards in passing and rushing. He transitioned to college football at Jacksonville State as a receiver during his freshman year. In his redshirt freshman year last season, Vaughn led JSU’s receivers with 48 catches for 803 yards and five touchdowns.
Following an offseason move with head coach Rich Rodriguez from Jacksonville State to West Virginia, Vaughn has been named a Phil Steele All-Big 12 third team selection and placed on the Biletnikoff Award watch list.
The recipient of the Biletnikoff Award is chosen by a National Selection Committee comprising college football journalists, commentators, and former receivers. Past winners have often succeeded in the NFL, including Travis Hunter (2024), Marvin Harrison Jr. (2023), DeVonta Smith (2020), Ja’Marr Chase (2019), and Jerry Jeudy (2018).
Fred Biletnikoff’s Hall of Fame career includes notable achievements such as his performance in Super Bowl XI, where he earned MVP honors with four receptions for 79 yards.
