A bullet was fired into the office of Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid last year while he was inside, according to a report from the Kansas City Star published on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the team’s practice facility in early May 2024.
Citing multiple sources, the Kansas City Star reported that Reid was alone in his office when a bullet entered through an exterior window and became lodged in a wall between his bathroom and office entry door. Following the incident, the team installed bulletproof glass at the facility.
The report noted that two additional bullets struck other areas of the facility: one hit the third floor, and another struck an outdoor air-conditioning unit. Few members of the organization were reportedly aware of these events.
Kansas City police confirmed they are investigating the shooting as an aggravated assault since people were present inside at the time. No injuries were reported, and there have been no arrests or charges filed as of Thursday. Police stated, “Based on investigation to this point there is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.”
A spokesperson for the Chiefs declined to comment on Wednesday night.
The shooting happened just months after Reid led Kansas City to its third Super Bowl championship in five years with a title repeat. Last season, under Reid’s leadership, they again won their conference but lost to Philadelphia in the NFL championship game.
Reid has a coaching record of 273-146-1 over his career with both Kansas City and Philadelphia. He ranks fourth in all-time NFL wins behind Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick.
