A bullet was fired into Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s office at the team’s practice facility last year while he was present, according to a report from the Kansas City Star.
The newspaper, citing several sources, reported that Reid was working alone in his office in early May 2024 when a bullet fired from outside pierced the window and blinds before lodging in a wall between his bathroom and entry door. Following the incident, the team installed bulletproof glass.
Additionally, two other bullets reportedly struck different parts of the facility. One hit the third floor, while another struck an outdoor air-conditioning unit. The Star reported that few people within the organization were informed about these events.
Kansas City police are investigating the matter as an aggravated assault because people occupied the building at the time. There were no injuries or reports of anyone being struck.
The authorities stated, “Based on investigation to this point there is no indication this was a targeted incident at any person or organization.”
No arrests or charges have been made so far, and police said their investigation is ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Chiefs declined to comment to The Associated Press on Wednesday night regarding the incident.
Reid led Kansas City to back-to-back Super Bowl championships prior to this occurrence and has guided his team to three titles in five years. Last season, they won another AFC title but lost to Philadelphia. Over 12 seasons with Kansas City and 14 with Philadelphia, Reid holds a record of 273-146-1, ranking fourth on the National Football League’s all-time wins list behind Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick.
