It may be a while before Brandon Aiyuk returns to the field for the 49ers in the upcoming 2025 NFL season, but there is some optimism about his recovery. Aiyuk suffered ACL and MCL tears in his right knee during Week 7 last season and was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list before training camp began. Although no specific timeline for his return has been provided, general manager John Lynch offered an encouraging update on Aiyuk’s progress.

“With respect to B.A., he did a lot to his knee, and I would tell you that he’s in a really good place considering all that,” Lynch said Tuesday in Santa Clara. “Now what does that mean in terms of a timeline and all that? We’re continuing to assess and get information. He did a lot of his rehab away from here. And so I think when you get these guys back, there’s all kinds of objective measurements that you want to do.”

Aiyuk is expected to miss at least San Francisco’s first four games as he continues his recovery. His status will be closely monitored as the 49ers deal with challenges in their wide receiver lineup. Alongside Aiyuk, second-year receiver Ricky Pearsall is also on the PUP list but isn’t expected to be out for long, according to Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan.

In other team news, Jauan Jennings is seeking a new contract following a successful 2024 season or wants the team to trade him. Jennings reported to camp on Tuesday, and Lynch noted they had a “good visit.” “Jauan has reported, he took his physical yesterday,” Lynch said. “I won’t speak for Jauan, but had a good visit with him, anticipate him being out there. You guys know our feelings on J.J., he embodies what we think a Niner’s all about. Plays the right way, we love him.”

Additionally, Demarcus Robinson might face up to a three-game suspension after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor DUI charge and receiving three years’ probation.

Despite these uncertainties within San Francisco’s receiver group, Aiyuk’s eventual return could provide much-needed clarity.
