In Texas, athletic achievements often span generations, and for Baylor Bears starting quarterback Sawyer Robertson, his family’s background is notable both within football and baseball.

After spending his 2022 redshirt freshman season at Mississippi State, where he threw just 11 passes, Robertson transferred home to Texas to play for Baylor. In his first season as the starting quarterback, the redshirt junior passed for 3,071 yards and had a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 28:8.

Robertson’s father, Stan Robertson, has played a significant role in shaping this athletic path. According to reports, “His father, Stan, was a multi-sport star himself, signing with Texas Tech out of high school to play football and baseball.” The report continues, “Stan wound up taking a detour to the minor leagues after being drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 1990 MLB Draft. He came back to join the Texas Tech football team in 1994.”

Stan was selected as the No. 40 overall pick in the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft by the Montreal Expos — ahead of future All-Stars such as Garret Anderson, Ray Durham, Bret Boone, Mike Hampton and Jorge Posada. His baseball career lasted three seasons at the minor league level with highlights including helping lead the Gulf Coast Expos to a championship in 1991. However, he never advanced beyond Single-A ball and finished with a .217 batting average.

After concluding his baseball stint, Stan enrolled at Texas Tech and joined its football program in 1994. At that time he was teammates with linebacker Zach Thomas — who would later become a Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee.

Now leading Baylor’s offense, Sawyer Robertson displays skills that attract attention from National Football League scouts. Standing at six feet four inches tall and weighing two hundred twenty-five pounds, he demonstrates both arm strength for all required throws as well as mobility when extending plays under pressure.

With each touchdown pass thrown during his college career at Baylor University, Robertson adds not only to his individual performance but also continues building on his family’s established presence within Texas athletics.
