Playground Productions has announced the release date for Backyard Football ’99, which will become available on PC, iOS, and Android platforms starting Sept. 9. Fans can pre-register now through mobile stores or add the game to their Steam wishlist.
This title continues Playground Productions’ efforts to modernize classic sports games for current devices. Previous updates include re-releases of Backyard Baseball ’97 and ’01 as well as Backyard Soccer ’98. The remastered version of Backyard Football ’99 has again been developed by Mega Cat Studios.
Many original athletes from the game have been licensed for this release. Professional football players such as Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, Drew Bledsoe, Jerry Rice, John Elway, Randall Cunningham, and Steve Young will appear in the updated game.
“Backyard Sports holds a special place in the hearts of sports fans,” Barry Sanders commented in a release. “Joining Backyard Football in 1999 was a great honor, and I’m excited to celebrate its relaunch for fans old and new.”
Backyard Football ’99 will offer solo play and two-player options, including single matches, a season mode, and access to a global leaderboard.
