Edgerrin James was born on August 1, 1978, in Immokalee, Florida. He grew up in a small town, where football was a way of life. From an early age, he showed talent on the field. He attended Immokalee High School, where he became one of the best players on the team. His success there led him to the University of Miami. At Miami, James became one of the top running backs in college football. He broke records and made a name for himself.
In 1999, James was selected by the Indianapolis Colts as the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft. He quickly became one of the best running backs in the league. He was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1999. Over his career, James became the Colts’ all-time leader in rushing yards and touchdowns. He later played for the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks.
James made the Pro Bowl four times and was named an All-Pro three times. In 2020, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. James remains proud of his roots in Immokalee. His success on the field was shaped by the community that raised him. He is remembered not just for his records, but for representing his hometown on the national stage.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Edgerrin James with the 4th overall pick in the 1st round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
Edgerrin James was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
