Antonio Gates, a former tight end for the San Diego/LA Chargers, is recognized as one of the greatest in NFL history. Over his career from 2003 to 2018, Gates recorded 116 touchdown catches, making him one of the top tight ends with the most receiving touchdowns in NFL history. His career stats include 955 receptions and 11,841 receiving yards.

Gates’ journey to football prominence began after playing college basketball. He was signed as a free agent by the Chargers and quickly made an impact. One standout moment was his touchdown catch against the Colts in 2004, which tied him for the single-season record for tight ends. Reflecting on this achievement, Gates said, “That was my second year, and I became the all-time [single-season] leader. That’s crazy,” adding that he never imagined such success as he transitioned from basketball to football.

Throughout his career, Gates participated in eight Pro Bowls and left a lasting legacy as a competitor who excelled both offensively and defensively.
