Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has been named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list, according to an announcement from the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation on Tuesday.
Simpson is one of 58 quarterbacks included on this year’s watch list for the Golden Arm Award. This award recognizes the top senior or upperclassman quarterback who is expected to graduate with their class. The selection process will continue throughout the season, narrowing the field to semifinalists and finalists before a winner is chosen in December. The recipient will be recognized at the annual Golden Arm Award enshrinement at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Johnny Unitas’ hometown.
Alabama has previously had three winners of the Golden Arm Award: Jay Barker (1994), AJ McCarron (2013), and Mac Jones (2020).
Other Alabama players and coaches have also been named to various preseason watch lists, including awards such as the Lott IMPACT Trophy, Dodd Trophy, Maxwell Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Outland Trophy, Butkus Award, Paul Hornung Award, Wuerffel Trophy, Walter Camp Award, Patrick Mannelly Award, Doak Walker Award, Biletnikoff Award, Mackey Award, Rimington Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Vince Lombardi Award, and Comeback Player of the Year.
The Golden Arm Award continues to highlight achievements by student-athletes and maintains its connection with Johnny Unitas’ legacy in college football.
