Aaron Rodgers is approaching a significant career milestone as he prepares for his debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rodgers, who is 41 years old, is just 489 passing yards short of surpassing Philip Rivers on the National Football League all-time passing yards leaderboard. Achieving this would place him fifth in league history when he passes for the needed yardage during the upcoming 2025-26 season at Acrisure Stadium.

Rodgers has played 20 seasons in the league and has built a reputation as one of its most efficient quarterbacks. His career includes four National Football League MVP awards, five All-Pro selections, ten Pro Bowl appearances, two passing touchdown titles, and a Super Bowl XLV victory. He holds what is considered the best touchdown-to-interception ratio in National Football League history.

Currently ranked seventh in career passing yards, Rodgers has thrown for 62,952 yards across 248 games with 5,369 completions. Surpassing Rivers’ mark of 63,440 yards could happen within two games, although there have been single-game performances exceeding that number—most notably Norm Van Brocklin’s record-setting 554-yard game for the Los Angeles Rams in 1951.

After Rivers on the list is former Pittsburgh Steelers player Ben Roethlisberger with 64,088 yards. To move ahead of Roethlisberger into fifth place on the all-time list would require Rodgers to reach another milestone: gaining an additional 1,136 yards.

Rodgers experienced a decline in statistics last season but still managed to throw for nearly 3,900 yards with twenty-eight touchdowns and eleven interceptions. Throughout his career he has often surpassed the four-thousand-yard threshold per season but has not reached that mark in his past three campaigns.

The article notes that climbing higher into the top four leaders will be difficult this season because Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Brett Favre have set marks well above seventy thousand yards—Brady and Brees having surpassed eighty thousand each.

While breaking those high marks may be out of reach unless Rodgers extends his career well beyond current expectations—the focus remains on team success rather than personal achievements as he prepares to face his former team, the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 7.
