The National Football League has suspended San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Demarcus Robinson for three games due to a violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. The announcement was made by head coach Kyle Shanahan during an appearance on KNBR radio Wednesday.
Robinson’s suspension follows his no contest plea to a misdemeanor DUI charge related to an arrest in November 2024, when he was with the Los Angeles Rams. Patrol officers reported that Robinson was driving at speeds over 100 mph and displayed “objective signs and symptoms of alcohol impairment.” He was cited after the incident and released to a responsible party, while the Rams chose not to suspend him at the time.
Shanahan said Robinson could appeal the suspension but indicated that the team expects him to be absent for three games.
San Francisco general manager John Lynch commented earlier this year at the NFL owners’ meetings about the potential suspension. Lynch said, “There’s an opportunity that he may miss some time.”
The 49ers’ receiving group is already facing additional challenges as Brandon Aiyuk is expected to miss games early in the season recovering from a torn ACL suffered in 2024. Jauan Jennings has missed parts of training camp with a calf injury, and rookie Jordan Watkins’ status for Week One remains uncertain due to a high ankle sprain.
Robinson joined San Francisco in March on a two-year contract after playing for Los Angeles over the previous two seasons.
