San Francisco 49ers kicker Jake Moody’s recent performance in the preseason has drawn significant support from within the team. His game-winning 59-yard field goal against the Las Vegas Raiders was a key moment, highlighting his progress after a difficult previous season.
General manager John Lynch spoke on KNBR’s Murph and Markus show on August 21, 2025, about Moody’s decisive kick and shared an interaction he had on the sideline. “Kyle Juszczyk came to me in the fourth quarter, and he goes, ‘Wouldn’t it be perfect for Moody to have a walk-off?’ At that point, we thought it might be a walk-off tie. Kind of uneventful, but that’s NFL preseason football. Juice called his shot and he got it,” Lynch said. Lynch noted how teammates responded when Moody made the kick: “The reaction from our team, I think that tells you that those guys believe in Jake Moody. The guy’s been through it a little bit. Last year was rough, but he’s done a great job of moving forward.” He added, “It was a really cool moment to see our team rally around our guy. One of the fun preseason moments that I’ve had.”
Special teams coach Brant Boyer also commented following practice on August 21, emphasizing what this moment could mean for Moody’s career: “It could change his career,” Boyer said. “I think he showed a lot of character in that moment to bounce back.”
Moody missed ten field goals last season and faced competition during training camp with veteran Greg Joseph joining the roster; however, Moody retained his position as starting kicker.
Separately, on August 20, wide receiver Skyy Moore joined the team and is expected to contribute as both a punt and kick returner this season after passing his physical during first practice participation on August 21.
While fans remain divided over whether Moody will provide long-term stability at kicker for San Francisco, support from inside the organization appears strong.
